The next CA RSOL meeting in Los Angeles will take place on July 26 at 10 am, at the usual location – the ACLU building at 1313 W. 8th Street in Los Angeles.
Registrants, family and friends, supporters and professionals are welcome to attend. Media and Government officials are not invited in order to ensure everyone’s privacy. Topics of discussion will include changes in the laws as well as pending litigation and advocacy strategies.

I agree Mr. Shoemaker. I believe that not everyone should be on the same banner. Every situation is different. Its not fair. I think there is a discrimination. I wish I could be there to say something.. Please speak up if you agree. I will pray for a good outcome.

I would like to address the issue of unavailable housing for PC 290 registrants and AB 109’s coming out of prison who are mandated to wear GPS devices but told “Good luck finding a shelter who will accept you,” and “I just don’t know what to tell you.” Would like to propose the idea of creating housing in non-restricted parts of the San Fernando Valley with funds being made available to assist those disenfranchised with at least some portion of their rent for the first few months. The clear advantages would be to get them off the streets first and foremost, and then begin the networking to address their other needs such as food, clothing, transportation, medical and job resources. Looking the other way just isn’t working. Housing such as this has existed in the past but were shuttled when parole stopped paying the rent for high-risk parolees. Until positive changes can be made to address this ever-increasing concern, we as a part of the community, must do what politicians are afraid to. Look forward to being there July 26th.

Can’t wait for the meeting. Would like to talk to Janice and others about why a sex offender was given the ‘okay’ by a federal probation officer to start his own business (plumbing repair) and now they are telling him he can not do this and it doesn’t matter what the other officer said… I thought they couldn’t keep you from making a living???
I’m a 290 family supporter and I won’t be able to attend this meeting. Any idea of when you might be holding a meeting in San Diego? My 290 family member really needs to attend your meetings. He has been out since January of this year and although he has strong support from all the siblings he still finds himself alone and frustrated. Without his support, he would definitely be lost. They don’t make it easy for you guys and seems like they want you to fail. This is a great organization and i’m thankful i have been able to attend a few meetings as a supporter. GOD bless.

Am looking forward to attending since I would like to find some resources on low-income housing since 290’s are barred from living in any project based housing effectively making ssi 290’s unable to find a home.
Thank you to everyone for the support and the efforts to create change for the better. I am on my 8th year of a 10 year probation term after serving 7 months in county jail and have been wanting to say thank you, or just get involved somehow, but have been too scared. I am submitting my paperwork to ask the court to terminate my probation early.
The ironic part is that I haven’t been too scared to put myself in the limelight as a year ago the media was on a frenzy in finding out that I was a student body president and a registered sex offender. (With that said, I’m sure many of you are familiar with what I am referring to.) I stood up for myself and although I had many people sending me death threats or just hurtful comments, I had a group of people that truly supported me and helped me get through the rough time. I was able to contribute so much to my school that when I leave this fall, there will be many programs that I initiated that I will be remembered for those things and not what I did almost 9 years ago.
I am reminded daily though of the life I now have to live because of how people personalize my experience without knowing what truly happened and to what extent the crime was. As an example, I will be transferring to a university in the fall and after I had been accepted into housing, I, being the honest person and forthright as possible, disclosed my registration status so that there wouldn’t be any problems even though I DID NOT have to disclose and no where in their rules and regulations, and by laws did it restrict me from applying. A month later, I was advised that they were cancelling my housing contract through the Co-op in which I applied not giving me a specific reason other than they could do that. I am now having a very difficult time finding housing and will be researching any regulations on where I can park my car to sleep. I cannot let anything hold me back.
So, I am going to attempt in attending on the 26th as afraid as I will be, but I am sure I will be in good hands.
Again, thank you for what you do. I hope that I can too help make change.

We are parents of a soon, we hope, to be paroled offender. He was a teenager when he offended and has been in prison for 17+ years. We are really looking forward to meeting Janice and all of the “warriors” who are fighting so hard for fairness in these laws. This will be our first meeting, but not the last. See you there!
